November 5th marks the end of daylight savings time. It also means it is time to change the battery in your smoke/carbon monoxide detector. Please refer to your detector's owners manual for proper guidance.

10 fire safety tips to help keep you and your kids alive and safe

Too many people are losing their lives in fires. As any fire investigator will tell you, I know that a lot of fire deaths and injuries can be avoided by following a few simple steps.

  1. Get some smoke detectors
  2. Put a smoke detector on every level of your home
  3. Close bedroom doors
  4. Set up an exit plan
  5. Purchase a fire ladder
  6. Exit first, then call 911
  7. Never re-enter a burning home
  8. Never leave a burning candle in a room by itself
  9. Don’t sleep with space heaters
  10. Get a fire extinguisher
